A teenage boy finds an ancient Go board haunted by the spirit of a Heian-era Go master who has waited a thousand years to play the perfect game. The spirit can only interact with the world through Hikaru, so Hikaru learns Go with a ghost for a teacher. The Chinese live-action adaptation of the beloved manga by Yumi Hotta and Takeshi Obata keeps the ghost premise and the Go tournament structure while relocating to contemporary China — and produces one of the best sports coming-of-age stories in Chinese drama, anchored by two protagonists separated by a millennium who share an obsession.
