Concrete Utopia
Seoul is destroyed by an earthquake. One apartment complex — Hwanggung Residences — remains standing. Its residents vote to exclude non-residents from shelter. The man who comes to lead this exclusion is warm, principled, and methodically becomes someone who cannot be recognized as either. Concrete Utopia is Korea's best disaster film since Train to Busan, and unlike Train to Busan it is not interested in survival: it is interested in how quickly people organize themselves into systems of exclusion when resources become limited, and how ordinary the descent into cruelty looks from inside.
